This aircraft was only operational from May 25,1943 to June 24,1943 when she was ditched in the Mediterranean. All on board were seen getting out of plane, but never recovered. MACR24 (24 June 1943).

One of the Pyramidiers she started life as a ugly duckling that nobody wanted to fly, but by the end of her career shefinished in a blaze of glory! She was flown by Lt. Royden L. Lebrecht, on the Ploesti Raid (operation Tidal Wave 1 August 1943). In 1942-43 she dropped 360,000 LB's of bombs in Africa, Sicily, Greece, Crete and Romania.71 Missions, downed six enemy planes and flew the equivalent of four times around the world. When The Squaw finished combat and was sent home on a war effort tour, the Sleepy nose art was removed and replaced with a large Mediterranean (MTO) map of the combat area depicting it's sorties.
